Ghana Is Poised to Organise the Best Ever African Games – Sports Minister

The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif has maintained that the country stands ready to host the African Games.

Speaking at the Ministry of Information during the Minister’s Press Briefing today, Hon. Ussif underscored the nation’s commitment to deliver a groundbreaking event, highlighting the significant progress made in preparation for the 13th African Games slated to commence from March 8th to 23rd, 2024.

“The completion of sporting facilities for the hosting and organization of the 13th African Games, Accra, 2023 underscores the commitment of His Excellency, the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to the development of sports in Ghana,” Hon. Ussif stated.

He emphasized the transformative impact of the newly constructed Borteyman Sports Complex and the University of Ghana Stadium, heralding them as landmarks that position Ghana as a beacon of sports development on the continent.

“Facilities at Borteyman, especially the Aquatic Centre, are one of a kind in the whole of Africa. This will make Ghana a centre of sports development on the continent,” the Minister added.

The Minister also emphasized the comprehensive preparations in terms of logistics, security, and participant engagement. Measures such as the installation of CCTV cameras, deployment of security personnel, and provision of free visas for foreign athlete’s underscore Ghana’s commitment to ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all participants.

“The facilities at Borteyman, especially the Aquatic Centre, is one of its kind in the whole of Africa. This will make Ghana a center of sports development on the continent,” Mr. Ussif emphasized.

In addition to hosting a successful event, he said Ghana has ambitious plans for post-games management of the facilities.

Hon. Ussif revealed that the Borteyman Sports Complex would be transformed into a University of Sports for Development, further cementing Ghana’s status as a leader in sports development within the West African sub-region.
