Ghana Committed to Hosting the 3rd African Media Convention

The President of the Ghana Journalists Association and Co-chair for the Local Organizing Committee has pledged full commitment and preparedness towards the 3rd African Media Convention to be hosted in Ghana between 15th – 17th May 2024. He made this remark when he addressed the media at a Press Briefing held at the Ministry of Information Press Center.

“We at the GJA and the Local Organizing committee are pleased to announce that we have achieved all preparatory requirements and are ready to host this historic event,” he said.

“First I wish to state that all logistics, facilities and support, service including events venues, accommodation, transport, personal and resources required to effectively host the convention have been duly secured.” he further noted.

Mr. Dwumfuor noted that the conference is expected to bring ideas of stakeholders in the media across the continent to take action for the betterment of the media and the people of the African continent.

The Convention is expected to commence on May 15, 2024, under the theme, “The African Media we want: Enhancing Freedom, Innovation and Sustainability in a Dynamic media Landscape”. The programme would however be launched on May 16 by the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo.

He further indicated that about 200 individuals will be participating in this year’s convention with stakeholders from the media fraternity and policy makers.

The UNESCO Laison officer to AU and UNECA, Madam Lydia Gachungi also emphasized that the conference will focus on the challenges, gaps, and the opportunities of the Media in Africa as a whole.

On his part, the President of the Federation of African Journalists, and the chairman of the African Media Convention, Mr. Omar Farouk commended Ghana for being an example of good governance and a beacon of democracy in Africa. He stated that this offers a conducive platform for stakeholders’ engagement in enhancing Press Freedom and making policies to improve the media landscape in Africa.
