The Government has appealed to Ghanaians to support measures outlined in the 2021 budget to ensure the economy is put back on track to deliver on the development of the country.
According to the Minister for Information and Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ofoase Ayirebi Constituency, Honourable Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the main objective of the budget was to recover the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and speed up growth and expansion of the Ghanaian economy.
The Minister said that it was important for all stakeholders to support and contribute to the rebuilding of the economy.
He indicated that the budget would review and optimise the implementation of government’s flagship programmes and create jobs for young people as well as expand opportunities for the vulnerable people in society, including persons with disability.
Hon. Oppong Nkrumah called on journalists to familiarise themselves with details of the budget to inform the public appropriately.
“We need to cut off the propaganda and misinformation so we can help our country, the minister emphasized”.
Update on Vaccination Exercise
For his part, the Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye said that Ghana has about 12 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccines from the COVAX facility to vaccinate about six people.
He added that about 42 million doses will be needed to vaccinate the targeted population of 20 million across the country.
Dr. Aboagye indicated that government has initiated all the necessary arrangements to ensure that the country receives enough to complete the vaccination exercise.
He added that the private sector was also partnering with the government to bring in additional quantities through the COVAX Facility to augment government’s effort.
“MTN as part of its corporate social responsibility will be supporting with about 160,000 doses for the vaccination exercise”, Dr. Aboagye reiterated.
Case Count
On Ghana’s case management, Dr. Aboagye said that a total of 89,682 cases have been recorded so far with majority of them fully recovering. The death rate recorded as at the time of filing the report was 725.
