Government Committed to Improving Infrastructural Development in Eastern Region -Regional Minister.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Honourable Seth Kwame Acheampong has reiterated the government’s commitment to improving key infrastructure to facilitate economic development within the Eastern Region. Hon. Acheampong highlighted several development interventions both completed and ongoing under the leadership of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo – Addo and the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia since 2017.

The Minister cited the construction of roads, schools, health facilities, education and economic empowerment all aimed at improving infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for residents in the Eastern region.

Hon. Kwame Acheampong made these remarks when he hosted the 2nd edition of the Town Hall Meetings and Exhibitions at the Centre for National Culture (CNC) in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital on Tuesday, 3rd September 2024.

Addressing dignitaries at the event, the Minister explained that the event presented an opportunity for the public to receive firsthand information on Government’s achievements and engage the citizens to obtain feedback for the purposes of accountability, transparency and democratic governance.

“It’s a great honor to host the 2024 Regional Town Hall Meeting and Exhibition here in Koforidua to showcase Government achievements,” he stated.

According to the regional minister, the Government has provided over 400 educational infrastructure since 2017 from Basic to Senior High School. Significant among them is the establishment of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Senior High School at Abomosu in the Atiwa West District and the TVET school completed in Akyem Anyinam all in the eastern region.

On roads, Hon. Seth Acheampong emphasized that the government has completed over 1,859-kilometer of roads in the region. He reiterated the government’s commitment to improving transportation infrastructure to facilitate economic development within the region.

Dr. Alex Ampaabeng, the Deputy Finance Minister, touted the stable supply of electricity as a cornerstone of government’s efforts to support businesses and improve the quality of life for all Ghanaians.

“We have ensured that the days of erratic power supply are behind us. Today, businesses can operate with confidence, and households enjoy uninterrupted power, which is essential for our economic growth and development,” he stated.

He also noted the government’s success in stabilizing the cedi, which had previously experienced volatile fluctuations, and achieving a balance of trade surplus, a significant milestone for the country’s economy.

The Minister for Information, Fatimatu Abubakar, in her opening remarks emphasized the significance of the Regional Town Hall Meetings and Exhibitions as part of the government’s broader agenda to ensure that citizens are well-informed about initiatives aimed at enhancing their livelihoods.

“These town hall meetings are crucial because they bring governance closer to the people,” she said.

The Presidential Advisor on Health, Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, also highlighted government interventions towards a holistic medical hub in the country.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Information in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council (ERCC).
