The Minister for Information, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has announced that the Media Capacity Enhancement Programme (MCEP) has received funding from the Participation Programme of UNESCO through the support of the Ghana Commission for UNESCO.
The announcement was made during a meeting with the working committee and partners towards the implementation of phase II of the programme.
UNESCO’s support for the MCEP comes after the successful execution of the inaugural edition held in Kumasi in January 2022.
UNESCO was impressed by the outcomes and impact of the programme and recognised the programme’s role in advancing journalism and media practices, which fall under its Communication and Information sector.
The support would not only reinforce the significance of the MCEP but also demonstrate the importance of collaboration and international cooperation in advancing media practices and promoting responsible journalism.
The Ministry and its partners expressed gratitude to UNESCO and the Ghana Commission for UNESCO’s support and look forward to the successful implementation of phase II, which would contribute to the professional development and capacity-building of journalists in Ghana.
The MCEP is aimed at training journalists in various aspects of reporting and ethics.
The funding received would enable the working committee to enhance the quality and reach of the training sessions. It is expected to contribute to the development of an updated curriculum, the provision of necessary resources, and the facilitation of a robust learning experience for the participants.
