The Minister for Transport, Honourable Kwaku Ofori Asiamah has said that the ongoing upgrade in infrastructure at the air, land and sea ports would see Ghana become a preferred destination for Maritime trade in the West African sub-region.
According to the Minister, Government had since 2017 embarked on major infrastructure expansion and service improvements in the country’s Maritime and Inland waterways and Aviation sector to make our ports competitive and highly patronised.
“Government has embarked on an aggressive programme to modernise the country’s Sea ports to position them as the leading container hub and the beacon of international trade within West Africa and the Tema Port has seen major infrastructure upgrade in the last 4 years”, the Minister touted.
He made the remarks when he took his turn at the mid-week Minister’s Press Briefing in Accra today.
Hon. Ofori Asiamah attributed the increase in transshipment to Government’s broad strategy of improving the ports infrastructure so they could rake in the needed revenue.
He cited the development of four berths at the new Dedicated Container Terminal (MPS Terminal 3). These have been completed and fully operational. The new terminal is arguably one of the biggest and efficient in West Africa and thus enhance Ghana’s competitiveness in the Maritime domain.
