Deputy Minister of Information, Honorable Pius Enam Hadzide has reiterated President Akufo-Addo’s commitment to completing all projects he inherited from his predecessors. The Minister disclosed this in an interview on Adom FM’s evening political show, ‘Burning Issues”
According to the outspoken Minister, contrary to the claim by the former President John Mahama that health projects started during his tenure have been abandoned, President Akufo-Akufo has actually seen to the completion of a number of health projects across the country. The minister stated that 10 Polyclinics in the Central Region have been completed, including one at Gomoa Dawurampon, which was completed in 2018. Also, he said Ga East District Hospital in Accra has been completed and in use likewise UG Medical Center whose Phase II is about 70 percent complete.
The minister further pointed out that, 9 hospitals under the Euroget-De-Invest project started by President Kuffuor is being attended to with some completed like the Wa Regional Hospital and many others at different stages of completion. Stressing on government commitment to completing old projects, he further pointed out that the Bekwai Hospital started during Kwame Nkrumah era is almost completed. He said, Komfo Anokye Maternity and Children Ward after 40 years of neglect is being attended to by the government. He further disclosed saying “apart from completing the inherited projects, some 665 health projects have been initiated by this government with some 365 of these projects completed and already in use and the remainder ongoing. Among these projects include, hospitals, polyclinics, clinics, CHIPS compounds, doctors and nurses bungalows and various heath infrastructure”.
Also, speaking on the construction of 88 District hospitals and 6 Regional hospitals as announced by the president, the Minister stressed that “this project as ambitious as it might be, the visionary Akufo-Addo will surely get it done. Just as the President found money to fund the free water supply, discounted electricity, GHS 600M Compensation for businesses and all other relief packages during this pandemic, the government shall find money to fund these projects too” According to him, the strong state of the economy is enough to facilitate the funding and completion of these projects and within the stipulated the time.
